Is Mountain Biking a great workout?
September 26, 2024How can A.I. help me start a business?
November 7, 2024Let me start by saying I feel rich. I have a beautiful wife, two amazing daughters, and a solid career as a mid-level manager at a media company. I live in a vibrant part of the country, where I can afford a stunning home. I even have hobbies that ignite my passion. I’m genuinely impressed with where I stand in this exciting chapter of my life.
But it wasn’t always this way. I once grappled with uncertainty about my future—wondering if I’d ever have a family, own a home, or escape the shadow of poor decisions from my past. Yet, those experiences, even the challenging ones, have sculpted my present reality. However, a lingering question remains: What if there’s more?
Imagining the Possibilities: Hitting the Jackpot
What if a staggering $10 million suddenly appeared in my bank account? Perhaps it’s from a groundbreaking idea I executed, a lucrative business deal, or maybe—I just hit the jackpot! Regardless of how the money materialized, the real question is: What now?
Recently, I’ve contemplated this scenario, particularly after hearing it posed on the My First Million podcast. This thought-provoking exercise has opened my eyes to new possibilities and illuminated what truly matters in life. Surprisingly, I realized that it doesn’t take millions to craft the life I envision.
Reflections on My $10 Million Dream
Here are my reflections on what I would do if $10 million landed in my account tomorrow, and how it might revolutionize my life.
Investing in My Family’s Future
First and foremost, I would invest in my family’s education. My daughters would gain access to the best opportunities, allowing them to immerse themselves in their passions. Imagine the doors that could open for them if they didn’t have to work during high school, dedicating their time to athletics, academics, or other pursuits. The potential is limitless!
Pursuing My Entrepreneurial Dream
I’ve always yearned for the thrill of entrepreneurship. I’ve brainstormed countless ideas—more than most people accumulate in a lifetime. With financial backing, I could build an outdoor resort or develop tiny homes nestled in my hometown’s scenic river valley. One of my ideas includes a modular hitch-mounted bike rack that transforms into a ski or kayak rack. The possibilities are boundless, and capital would finally empower me to take action on these dreams.
Elevating My Wardrobe: Quality Over Quantity
Next on the agenda is my wardrobe. While I don’t need an overflowing closet, I deeply value quality. If I had more money, I’d invest in well-crafted, stylish pieces that stand the test of time. No more clinging to worn-out T-shirts or socks! Brands like Lululemon or Cuts would fill my wardrobe. I’d even spoil myself with 365 pairs of socks a year for that daily touch of luxury and comfort.
A Home with Acreage—and Vacation Havens
Next, I’d embark on home improvements. I envision purchasing sprawling acreage outside the city, complete with a modest, charming house, a spacious workshop for my projects, and lush woods or a serene river in the backyard. But I wouldn’t stop there—I’d acquire one or two vacation homes. Picture a cozy retreat in the majestic Montana mountains and a beach haven in Florida, generating passive income through Airbnb or VRBO when I’m not using them.
Chasing My Racing Dreams: Why not?
As a racing enthusiast, I believe I could compete at a recreational level. With more funds, I’d hit local dirt tracks, perhaps touring the Midwest in a street stock. Alternatively, I might go all-in with a Porsche 997, transforming it into a competitive track car for the GridLife Challenge. The adventure would be unforgettable, making cherished memories with my family—though I suspect my oldest daughter would be the only one sharing my enthusiasm.
Family Adventures in Style
An Airstream camper has long graced my wish list. I’d also upgrade my wife’s High Country to a luxurious Escalade—she deserves it! Together, we’d embark on family adventures, exploring national parks, state parks, and even the vibrant streets of New York City. Exposing our kids to new cultures and experiences is essential, and travel is the ultimate gateway.
Wrist Watches: My Guilty Pleasure
Wrist watches are one of my secret passions. The history behind iconic timepieces fascinates me—watches that have landed on the moon, competed in the Le Mans 24-hour race, or adorned the wrists of presidents. I have a wishlist of coveted watches, and with financial freedom, I’d expand my collection. I’m also eager to write a post about a watch I discovered after my grandfather passed away—one he purchased while enlisted in the army during Vietnam. The stories behind these watches make them truly special.
Conclusion: Do I Really Need $10 Million?
After reflecting on this enlightening exercise, I realized I don’t need $10 million to achieve many of these dreams. Perhaps $500,000 could suffice. The truth is, I’m already in a solid financial position where my daughters won’t have to work during high school unless they choose to. What I truly need is to invest in myself now, capitalize on my ideas, and make things happen.
So, what would you do with $10 million? I plan to ask my wife to create her own list so we can compare notes and collaborate on building the life we both desire.
